The Infrastructure System Engineer is a key member of the ECLIPSE team that will contribute to
the design and implementation of industry leading ECLIPSE product solutions by bridging the gap
between the software and hardware infrastructure. S/he will interact as part of the ECLIPSE team
with the Product Manager, the Account Manager, the Chief Architect and representatives of the
Services teams to produce winning proposals and deliver high quality product and service
offerings. In addition s/he will also be co-responsible along with the Chief Architect for the
production and implementation of the ECLIPSE Product Technology Roadmap.

Responsibilities

• To support the Commercial Director of Space Products and Manpower in implementing
and delivering the ECLIPSE business stream strategy.
• Defining the ECLIPSE product Infrastructure Architecture, as it relates to virtualization,
server deployment, infrastructure deployment policies, applications distribution,
management and administration of assets, storage and security components.
• Provide leadership for new deployments of Eclipse related infrastructure
• Accountable for devising, with support from the ECLIPSE Product and other Service
Teams, an effective infrastructure solution to offer a future ECLIPSE SaaS, that will meet
customer expectation in terms of performance, cost and security.
• Own the detailed end to end design, across all infrastructure domains, from inception
through to deployment of ECLIPSE solutions.
• Ensure we deliver to customers consistent, high quality, infrastructure solutions designed
for exploiting the ECLIPSE Product capabilities (delivering best performance within agreed
budgetary constraints)
• Ensure the architecture supports the execution of critical ECLIPSE applications
• Reconcile the ECLIPSE Infrastructure landscape (within our client base) and align it to the
agreed Product strategy, by influencing the product technology roadmap and client
choices in line with Sapienza’s commercial strategy
• Partner with the vendor community to assess product offerings; research, analyse and
evaluate alternative solutions and make recommendations to the business and customers
• Act as the subject matter expert and provide consultation to internal and external
customers to achieve successful implementations
• Understand current and future business needs and apply them to the ECLIPSE
Infrastructure and product strategy
• Define system requirements and architectural blueprints for standard product installs
• Ensuring compliance with internal as well as industry standards and processes (IT,
security directives, ECSS etc.)
• Responsibility to implement and support (where appropriate) the ECLIPSE team product
development, test and integration environments
• Contributing to resolution of technical issues and risks
• Support the estimation and planning for ECLIPSE projects and implementations
• Supporting product and supplier selection activities
• Responsible for understanding and advising on the critical issues that affect operational
stability and maintenance costs of ECLIPSE deployments and operations assuring these
are addressed continuously during development, deployment and operational phases.
• Apply and develop technology standards and ensure architectures and designs are
consistent with those standards
• Staying current on modern and emerging technologies with an infrastructure bias:
Databases, Storage Solutions, Middle Tiers, Security and SOAs
• Providing detailed analysis on products, technologies and methods.
• Document and provide guidance on architecture and IT related standards
• Reports to management on progress

Profile

• To work collaboratively with all ECLIPSE stakeholders, but with an ultimate incline
towards the product strategy
• Operate comfortably at all levels of the infrastructure design and implementation process.
• Strong team player who gains and shares knowledge openly, positively influencing the
growth of less expert colleagues
• Can retain a positive attitude on the face of difficulties
• Software development experience or a detailed understanding of the full SDLC is a distinct
advantage
• Good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills are important
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
• Ability to keep up to date with technological advances
• Experience of delivering SaaS solutions and or IaaS (is a plus)
• Self-motivated and able to take ownership of and work concurrently on multiple
initiatives
• Strong infrastructure engineering experience with a variety of vendor solutions
• Experience with VMware, Oracle (DBA) platform, Linux/Solaris, LDAP, SSO technologies,
Java EE administration/tuning, Glassfish (preferred), JBOSS AS (preferred)
• Degree level or higher in computer science or engineering (or equivalent experience) with
a sound background in infrastructure design and implementation
• 5+ years technical experience related to server standards, server virtualization, server
storage, security systems, remote access and LANs.
• Willing to work occasionally on a flexible schedule to meet business requirements
