THE POSITION
The Web Applications Developer assists with identifying internal needs and client demands for web-based applications, requirements gathering, and establishing development plans. The Web Applications Developer is directly responsible for architecture, coding, benchmarking, testing, documenting, troubleshooting and launch of applications. The overall measure of success for this role is the ability to deliver projects according to business and technical specifications and on time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in Agile environment
- Works with Team Leader to establish project scope and technical requirements as needed; advises Team Leader regarding technology trends related to fulfillment of application requirements.
- Assist with formulating objectives: planning project life-cycle deliverables and resource availability and application; preparing installation and modification specifications; assist with the exploration, evaluation, and design of technical solutions.
- Assists with assessing application security requirements.
- Implements solutions in accordance with project plans but remains flexible to potential changes in scope or requirements.
- Develops the programming code from scratch or by adapting existing website graphics packages and software to meet business requirements.
- Actively communicates project status and open issues to Team Leader.
- Assists with the preparation of appropriate application documentation for IT personnel, System Administrators, and End-Users.
- Assists with application demonstrations for SDI internal and client audiences as needed.
- Provides support as needed to IT personnel, System Administrators, and End-Users.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to troubleshoot in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively, and manage people and tasks efficiently.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- 4+ years of web development experience
- Awareness of industry technology trends and industry offerings.
- Track record of managing scope and delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Knowledge of and experience in full project life cycle systems development.
- Ability to analyze detailed log files and troubleshoot problems.
- Understanding of global deployment strategies for web-based applications.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a continuously changing environment.
- Desire and willingness to take initiative and learn new skills and adapt to changing trends in technology.
Programming and tool creation skills:
Must be able to create a simple tools or enablers for production without outsourcing.

- Experience with Photoshop, putty, WinSCP/FTP required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree in computer science or related degree preferred and/or four years related experience.
- Working knowledge of Internet Protocol (IP), internetworking concepts, and WAN technologies.
- Linux and Windows operating systems administrative capability
- Unix and Windows Shell scripting proficiency
- Awareness of network security concepts, Transport Layer Security, PKI and firewalls
- Familiarity with firewall configuration concepts and Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
- Familiarity with storage concepts including NAS, SAN and backup principals
- Familiarity with relational database products and concepts (MySQL, SQL server)
